Hello, welcome to Denny Ellison!

I thought I’d use my first blog entry to describe the company, outline its services (current and planned for the future) and also explain why I started the business in the first place.

So, to explain my background: I worked as an equity research analyst for several years in the U.S. and the U.K. after attending business school in the U.S. I caught the entrepreneurial bug, and decided to start my own company, Denny Ellison Enterprises Limited.

I felt that there was a gap in the market in the area of advice on how to enter the equity research profession. So I wrote a book for students called “How to Get an Equity Research Analyst Job: A Guide to Starting a Career in Asset Management”. Its targeted publication date is November 22, 2010. It will be available on Amazon and on this website.

For people who are further along in their careers, Denny Ellison’s consulting practice can provide guidance and advice on how to get an equity research analyst job, including mock interview practice.

The other business I am in the process of launching is an independent research firm. It will provide bespoke equity research to asset management companies, typically small and medium-sized firms that cannot get this type of attention and service from the sell-side. These companies need additional analytical resources, but cannot or do not want to hire more full-time analysts for the time being. Denny Ellison can fill the gap by providing research that is completely tailored to the clients’ needs.

The consulting service is fully operational. The research business is being built out, and is targeted for launch in Q1 2011.

How do I intend to use this blog? Well I’m sure it will evolve. But I plan to post articles and provide links to topics that will be of interest to equity research analysts (past, current and aspiring) and others in the asset management industry more generally. I will try to find resources that can help people in their search for equity research roles. In addition, if there is anything significant going on in the world of finance, I may comment on it.

I hope that some of my blog entries will generate discussion and debate, so please feel free to leave comments. The usual standards of respect and courtesy will apply.
