How to Get an Equity Research Job: A Guide to Starting a Career in Asset Management has been published.

I wrote the book with business school and undergraduate students in mind. When I was trying to get a job out of business school, I found that there were many resources that dealt with how to get investment banking and management consulting roles, but not much that addressed equity research specifically. I hope that this book will help to fill that gap in the market.

The book gives an overview of the asset management industry with a description of the key roles: buy-side analyst, portfolio manager, and sell-side analyst. A comparison is made of the buy and sell side positions, which will hopefully help people to decide which one might be a better career path for them.

There are some chapters on preparing a resume or CV and cover letter, and how to get an interview.

Then the core of the book deals with all of the different types of interviews that students are likely to encounter during their search for a job in equity research. It gives advice on how to prepare for interviews, including how to prepare a stock pitch. The book goes through a detailed step-by-step stock pitch preparation example.

The final chapter outlines some key tips to being successful on the job as an equity research analyst. These are things that I wish I knew when I first started out!

At only 166 pages, the book will hopefully be an easy read for busy students.
